The Tax Agency's ID card also contains electronic identification (e-legitimation). Electronic identification can be compared with a traditional ID document, such as an ID card or driving licence. Electronic identification can be used to securely prove your identity over the internet.
When you prove your identity with electronic identification, you can access information about yourself or your company that is available on the Tax Agency register. You can also manage your affairs over the internet with banks, authorities and companies.
The Swedish National Tax Board’s ID card contains electronic identity card (e-ID). This means that when you apply for an ID card at the National Tax Board, Skatteverket, you will receive at the same time an e-ID which you can use in the online services of various authorities.
Skatteverket’s ID cards issued in September 2017 or later contain e-IDs issued by Svenska Pass. The new e-ID does not work, however, on all authorities’ websites yet.
A letter containing a PUK code will be sent home to you, and you will select a personal code (PIN) when you log in for the first time.
If you have an ID card with e-ID from Svenska Pass and have lost your PIN code, you can order a new PUK code from Skatteverket. If you happen, however, to block your PUK code, you will have to apply for a new ID card, because a PUK code cannot be replaced.
In order to be able to use your e-ID from Svenska Pass, which is carried by your ID card, you need a computer and a card reader. When you use your e-ID for the first time, or if you use a new browser, you will need to install the SConnect Browser Plug-in on your browser.
