When you move, you must notify the Swedish Tax Agency of your change of address to ensure that you are listed correctly in the Swedish Population Register. Normally, your post will then be sent to the correct address. Correct address details help us to ensure you are charged the right amount of tax, and help establish your right to various subsidies and benefits, for example. The Swedish Tax Agency will inform a large number of public authorities and organisations of your new address. If you would like your post to be forwarded to your new address, you can order mail redirection from the Swedish change of address service, “Svensk Adressändring”.
Your registered address determines the municipality to which you pay tax, for example. Correct address records also have an impact on social planning in a broader sense, in relation to housing developments, schools and care for the elderly.
It can take up to two weeks to register your change of address. Please do not submit another notification about the same matter. If you have a question about your notification, or if you would like to make any changes, please call the tax information service on: 0771 567 567, or +46 8 564 851 60 from outside Sweden.
When the Swedish Tax Agency receives your notification, we will inform a large number of public, municipal and regional authorities of your new address, including:
We will also provide major banks, insurance companies and other businesses with your new address.
However, you may need to notify private individuals, membership organisations, publication subscription services and companies that you wish to receive post from.
If someone else is going to take delivery of your post for a longer period, you can register a special postal address via our e-service.
If you have your mail redirected, all post addressed to your previous address will be forwarded to your new address. However, mail redirection will not change your listed address in the Swedish Population Register. You can request mail redirection from the Swedish change of address service (“Svensk Adressändring”) for a fee. Your mail will be forwarded for a specified period, usually one year.
To help ensure your post gets to you, make sure your name is on your front door and on your postbox – even if you are a lodger or subletting a property. You should not write “care of” (c/o) when you notify us of a change of address since we do not list c/o addresses in the Swedish Population Register.
You should return all post to the party that sent it by writing “Return to sender: not known at this address” on the envelope, and then posting it. The sender will then know that the person in question does not live at your address.
If you know this person, it is a good idea to ask them to notify us of their change of address.
The Swedish Tax Agency will assess whether any Population Register data needs to be changed. Please help us by providing the postal address (your address) and as many of the following details as possible about the person in question:
You don’t have to provide the Swedish Tax Agency with your name or contact details if you don't want to, but it would help since we may have follow-up questions.
The easiest way to provide us with information is by filling in the contact form on our website.
You are also welcome to call the tax information service on 0771 567 567, or +46 8 564 851 60 from outside Sweden.
