Inform us of population registration errors
If someone is incorrectly registered at your home address, or at someone else’s address, you can notify the Swedish Tax Agency.
First check whether anyone should report a change of address
- If the address details we have listed for you or a member of your family are incorrect, do not use our Swedish e-service “Inform us of population registration errors” (“Meddela felaktig folkbokföring”). You must report a change of address instead.
- Many population registration irregularities are caused by unintentional mistakes or forgetfulness. If you discover that someone is incorrectly registered at your address, and you know who the person is, you can tell them to notify the Swedish Tax Agency of their correct address. If you receive post addressed to someone who is incorrectly registered at your address, you should return it to the sender. Write on the envelope that the person does not live at your address. No postage stamp is required.
When someone is incorrectly registered at your address
We have a Swedish e-service called “Show the names of those registered at your address” (“Visa folkbokförda på samma adress”). You can use it to:
- check the names of those listed at the same address as you
- notify us if someone is incorrectly registered at your address
Please provide as much information as possible since this will help us to correct any population registration errors relatively quickly. You don’t need to know the person’s personal identity number in order to use the e-service. If you notify us via the e-service, this will help us to identify and correct any errors quickly. You can use the e-service if you are listed in the Swedish Population Register, are over 18 years old, and have Swedish eID. If you don’t have Swedish eID, you can use our Swedish e-service “Inform us of population registration errors” (“Meddela felaktig folkbokföring”) instead.
Inform us of population registration errors
You can use our Swedish e-service “Inform us of population registration errors” (“Meddela felaktig folkbokföring”) to notify us that someone is incorrectly registered at an address other than your home address.
For example, someone could be incorrectly registered as living at your holiday home or workplace address. This e-service can be used by real-estate companies, landlords or tenant-owner associations if they have noted population registration errors in connection with a certain property.
To use this e-service, you need to know the personal identity number of the individual who is incorrectly listed in the Swedish Population Register. If you don’t know their personal identity number, you are welcome to contact our tax information service:

This is what happens when you have informed us
When you have informed the Swedish Tax Agency that someone is incorrectly listed in the Swedish Population Register, we will assess this information. We prioritise population registration errors that create problems for you, or cause harm to society.
In order for us to reach a quick decision on a population registration matter, the following requirements must be met:
- The person in question is likely to be incorrectly listed in the Swedish Population Register.
- You have problems due to the fact that this person is registered at your address.
We can often determine quickly whether the above requirements are fulfilled, but sometimes we will need to contact you or the person in question.
We contact the person if possible
Even in the case of population registration errors that we cannot prioritise, we send a reminder to the person who might be registered at the wrong address to correct their details as necessary. We always contact the individual if possible – for example, if they have a digital mailbox, or if we have been informed of a new address at which they can be reached.
You can provide additional information
We save all the details you submit to the Swedish Tax Agency, and you are always welcome to provide us with additional information. This could include a person’s new address or contact details, or the way in which a population registration error affects either you or others in Swedish society as a whole.
Here’s how to provide us with additional information:
- If someone is incorrectly registered at your address, you need to contact our tax information service to provide us with new details to complement your original notification.
- If someone is incorrectly registered at an address other than your home address, you can provide us with new details to complement your original notification by using our Swedish e-service “Inform us of population registration errors” (“Meddela felaktig folkbokföring”).

Here’s what you can do yourself
In most cases, an individual who is incorrectly listed in the Swedish Population Register will have failed to report their change of address. Many errors are corrected by the individuals concerned, when they identify these errors and report a change of address themselves. If you are able to contact the person in question, you can remind them to report their change of address.
If you receive post addressed to a person who is incorrectly registered at your address, you should return it to the sender. Write on the envelope that the person does not live at your address. No postage stamp is required.
What happens to your notification?
Our processing times vary, depending on how we prioritise each case. We usually maintain contact with the individual who might be incorrectly registered in each case.
You can check whether the person you informed about is still registered at your address by using our Swedish e-service “Show the names of those registered at your address” (“Visa folkbokförda på samma adress”).
