If you have moved to Sweden from Ukraine and have a residence permit with temporary protection, you can now be listed in the Swedish Population Register. This mainly applies to individuals who have stayed in Sweden on a residence permit with temporary protection for at least two years, and who intend to continue living here.
“If you fulfil the population registration requirements, you must report your move to Sweden to the Swedish Tax Agency,” says Caroline Frydlinger, Head of Section at the Swedish Tax Agency.
“You also need to book an appointment to visit a service centre in person for an identity check.”
The Swedish Tax Agency is bringing in additional resources to manage the expected increase in the number of people who report their move to Sweden. Processing times are likely to be slightly longer than usual during a transitional period.
“The Swedish Tax Agency assesses each reported move to Sweden individually, to check whether the requirements for population registration have been met,” says Sandra Hedberg, legal adviser at the Swedish Tax Agency.
“Your identity is established in Sweden when you are first listed in the Swedish Population Register, so we need to carry out a thorough check first.”
Ukrainians added to the Swedish Population Register will have the same rights and obligations as everyone else listed in the register.
