Electronic identification with the ID card

The Tax Agency's ID card also contains electronic identification (e-legitimation). Electronic identification can be compared with a traditional ID document, such as an ID card or driving licence. Electronic identification can be used to securely prove your identity over the internet.

When you prove your identity with electronic identification, you can access information about yourself or your company that is available on the Tax Agency register. You can also manage your affairs over the internet with banks, authorities and companies.

Terms and conditions for e-identification

The Tax Agency's ID card also contains the Telia e-legitimation service. This means that when you apply to the Tax Agency for an ID card you will also be given access to the Telia e-legitimation service. Read the conditions for the Telia e-legitimation service here.

PIN and PUK codes for e-legitimation

You use e-legitimation with a PIN code. The PIN code is posted to the address where you are registered.

If you lose your PIN or PUK code

The Tax Agency saves your PIN and PUK codes for one month. If you lose the codes in the first month after you have received your ID card, you can order new ones from us.

If you lose the codes after the first month, you will have to apply for a new ID card. This is because the cost of creating new codes is as much as making a new ID card.

Using your e-legitimation

To be able to use the e-legitimation that is on your ID card, you need a computer, a card reader (available from electronics stores) and the Net iD program.
